The Law of the Jungle Gym

Wherever there is an elementary school playground with a small mound of earth on it, children will spontaneously start a game of "King of the Hill," whether or not they know the game by that name. Once child will stand on top of the hill and maintain his position until someone powerful enough to throw him off comes by. Dodge ball is embedded in the male DNA. Even today in your adult life you can smile with wistful longing on the glorious, epic dodge ball battles of second grade. A condition of combat everywhere exists. We are born into a perpetual conflict. It is our inheritance even as it was the heritage of previous generations. Children don't need to be taught these games - they are a part of the hardware of life, no assembly required.

Whether you want it to be so or not, in your adult life you are in the middle of a real life game of King of the Hill with potentially grave, severe, and permanent consequences. You can't escape playing Dodge Ball every day. If you have any stability or comfort right now, it is only because you are not currently threatening those higher than you on the hill, and are for the moment out of reach of those below. The goal, however, is not to be comfortable but to be wealthy, powerful, and envied by everyone. Know that comfort is only temporary and requires constant vigilance in order to maintain. Fortunately, anyone can be pushed off the mountain at any time, and therein lies opportunity.

A man’s opportunities are never exhausted so long as other men (who are not his friends) possess millions of acres and thousands of tons of gold.

The natural world is a world of war; the natural man is a warrior; the natural law is tooth and claw. All else is error. We are born into perpetual conflict. The more one fully comes to terms with that truth, the greater the satisfaction that comes from living each day to the best of one's abilities and the more urgency there is to quickly move toward's one's goals. If you don't battle it out, it is guaranteed that someone will achieve exactly what it is you want, and from having started from a more disadvantaged point than you are as well. Are you going to cause what you want to occur, or allow other warriors of the world who are in their own way living out the law of tooth and claw decide for you where your station in life will be?
